SEPTEMBER 11-12, 2025

The PCBA's Annual 2-day MCLE Conference is will be held at Timbercreek Ballroom, Roseville. 

As with previous years, you will have the option of receiving material in the form of a book, or you can download an electronic version approximately a week prior to the conference. Please choose either to receive a pdf or the booklet.  Due to the increased costs of printing, hardbound book cost will be $40.00.  When registering, please be sure to select your breakout session choices.  Your decision helps us to ensure the appropriate size room and comfort for the number of attending each session. 

Also when registering, you will have the option of any dietary needs, such as gluten-free, dairy-free and vegetarian.  A breakfast buffet of fruit, eggs, bacon, potatoes and breakfast breads will be available on both Friday and Saturday so be sure to get there early, register and enjoy some breakfast and networking with colleagues before a day of education.  Lunch will be provided on both days, so be sure to check the box if you plan to attend lunch. Instead of eating and listening to a presentation at lunch, Friday lunch will provide time to eat and network with your colleagues. 

Schedule

Friday morning starts off with a plenary session with Don Vilfer (Digital Evidence Ventures) on cellphone forensics and acquiring evidence from cellphones (technology credit), followed by new laws in Employment applicable to both employee and employer attendees.  Following lunch, Retired Judge Barbara Kronlund will be presenting on Ethics (ethics credit) before our afternoon breakout sessions.  Civil law will present on assessing capacity with Dr. Glenn Hammel who recently presented to the CEB.  Criminal Law will be discussing Human Trafficking w3ith Jason Collins.  Brandon Begley will present Anti-SLAPP actions in family law, and finally Tasha Jahn will discuss Prop 19 for our Estate Planning/Probate practitioners.  We end Friday with Justice Mesiwalla for our Implicit Bias credit.

Saturday, we are working on challenges in jury selection followed by breakout sessions.  We are working on presenting strategies involving pro per litigants who use A.I. Judge Couzens will present update on case and statutory law regarding sentencing.  Family Lawa nd Probate/Estate Planning sections will present a joint topic of "Until Death Do US Part" with Robin Klomparens.  Civil, Family Law and Criminal Law are working on finalizing their breakout sessions.  Probate/Estate Planning will present on case law updates with Jim Filippi.  The final two plenary sessions will provide competency/mindfulness credit with Carol Buass ("Empathy and Mindfulness in the Courtroom") and Judge Dennis Cota on Ethics Utilizing A.I. (Ethics credit).

Breakfast and lunch are included both days. 

MCLE credit hours are a total of 11 hours.  Of those hours, we are offering 2.0 hours in Ethics, 1.0 in Implicit Bias, 1.0 hours credit in competency/mindfulness, and 1.0 hours credit in technology.  All of the estate planning sessions will qualify for specialty credit.
